SKITTLES
Skittles
Chippenham Sports Club is proud to host one of the largest and longest‑running in‑house skittles leagues in the area, with 33 teams competing in our winter season. Skittles has been part of the club’s identity for generations, and the lively atmosphere on match nights reflects a tradition deeply rooted in West Country culture. Played under classic local rules, pub skittles involves rolling three rubber balls down the alley to topple nine pins arranged in a diamond, with each team chasing the highest score across the night. It’s a game that blends simple, old‑fashioned fun with real skill, friendly rivalry, and plenty of camaraderie—making it a welcoming pastime for seasoned players and newcomers alike.
Our league is completely in‑house, meaning every match is played right here at Chippenham Sports Club across our two alleys, with four games taking place each night from Monday to Friday. The winter league runs from mid‑September through to mid‑April and can accommodate up to 36 teams, with most teams playing weekly. All sides are placed into one of three divisions based on ability, with promotion and relegation adding excitement to every season.
We also run a smaller, more relaxed summer league of around 10–12 teams, running from mid‑May to early September for those who enjoy a lighter, more social competition.
All divisions are open to both male and female members, and annual membership remains very affordable.
If you’d like to enter a brand‑new team, or if you’re keen to join an existing side but don’t yet know anyone, simply get in touch—we’re always happy to help pair new players with a suitable team.

Summer
Summer Skittles is officially in full swing!
The lanes are lively, the banter is flowing, and with 11 teams battling it out this year, the competition is already heating up.
But let’s be honest… there’s one showdown everyone’s secretly watching.
Only one Zumbies team can claim the prestigious Wooden Spoon.
So who’s it going to be — Zumbies A or Zumbies B
The race to the bottom has never looked so entertaining.
It’s all social, all good fun, and the perfect excuse to head down to the club for a drink (or two) while cheering everyone on.
Here’s to another brilliant summer of skittles, sunshine, and laughs.
